Paeonia lactiflora 'Purple Water Lily' Chinese herbaceous peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 紫芙蓉 Zi Fu Rong
Notable characteristics: Classic form and bright reddish purple blossoms are great for cutting and bouquets. Double form flower with good stem strength, 6-7'' in diameter. Often multiple blooms occur on the same stem. The spicy, sweet fragrance of this gorgeous Chinese herbaceous peony makes it a must for any garden.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Lactiflora, a classical cultivar from the peony growing center of Luoyang in Henan province.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Lower growing symetrical bush, to 30" tall and 36" wide.
Flower form and size: Full double blossoms, 6-7".
Flower fragrance: Very sweet.
Bloom time: Mid-season herbaceous peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 3-8.
Plant size: 4-5 eye plant with a proportional root system. This size plant will very likely flower its first spring in the ground.
